There is no doubt that Silverstone village is best known for the Silverstone Circuit. It is best known as the home of the British Grand Prix, which it first hosted in 1948. The British Grand Prix has been held on the circuit every year since 1987. The circuit is also home to the BRDC International Trophy, formerly one of the premier non-Championship F1 races in the calendar, today awarded to the winner of a race for historic F1 cars at the annual Silverstone Classic meeting.

Silverstone hosts the 2012 British Formula 1 Grand prix from the 6th to the 8th July 2012 and on the 8th to 10th June 2012 the World's fastest bikes return to Silverstone for the 2012 MotoGP.
